I have to say your music and your voice excites a “wee” bit! I’m waiting for the next time you come back to Ballinamore… Could be a while given we lost the “Moo” wine bar to the recession! Keep trucking Juliet!

Hi Juliet, I am an Irish guy living in Adelaide, Australia and this morning I put on Burn the Black suit for the first time in a long time, full blast on my new system. My wife and I still love it. It is my favorite song ever and it was emotional….. Brought back lots of memories of Ireland and going to see you in Dublin 10 years ago….. Thanks for the memories. Keep on singing!!!!

Hi Juliet, My name is Deirdre and I’ve loved you ever since first being introduced to “Burn the Black Suit” years ago. I am particularly in love with Belfast Central and I was wondering if I could have your permission to put it on my demo? I have a version recorded but I didn’t put it up online as I don’t own the rites to it. Its quite a simple interpretation really, just me singing and playing piano, If I forwarded the recording of it to you and you liked it, would it be ok to put it on my myspace page? Sincere condolences on the loss of your friend xx

    Hi Juliet,
I have been to many of your shows, and I would just like to pass on our condolences to you on the death of Derek Nally. I know he’s been with you from the start and helped get your career started.. Thinking of you during this hard time and we’ll meet up again when your next in Portlaoise,

Thought your set in Belfast on thursday night was great. The lyrics of your songs seem to tell a story that we all can relate to. Are you not on Twitter yet? It’s a great way for fans to follow you :) thanks for the beautiful music Juliet xx

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your set at the Brian Kennedy gig in Belfast last night. I really enjoyed your performance and also the 2 songs in Brian’s set. I didn’t have enough cash to buy your latest CD last night, but have just ordered it on amazon! I liked how you explained the background to some of the songs you sang last night. There are a few songs on Season of the Hurricane that I’d be interested to hear the background of one day! All the best xx

I live in Enniskillen and Enniskillen feis is coming up soon. I was hoping to do one of your songs; ‘Belfast Central’, but i can’t find the sheet music for it anywhere. Do you know where I could get it please?

Sometimes a personal disappointment can put poetry into one’s little head:

‘I will sit down and be amazed at you!

    I will write
    till my pen dries out:
Greetings that will hail your victories and defeats, alike.
Words that will engrave themselves into deep memory.
Thoughts that will convey my confusion and clarity.
Touches, some of which you will feel, others you won’t notice.
    Letters, written but unsent.

Under the light of the calm moon and the furious sun,
I will resist like a weed cracking open concrete.
An accomplice to the edge of absurdity,
    A rebel executing revolts.

And after all these words, thoughts and creatures have found
freedom from me, I will sit down and be amazed at you.
You, my quick judge of me.’

I went to see JT in concert last year in Ballymena on my brother’s recommendation and have been a fan ever since!I recently went to the gig in Belfast and it was brilliant! class! JTS songs are soo good and the introductions between songs were sometimes funny, sometimes touching but always beautiful, down to earth and meaningful with her, very own,and very special sense of humour.Belfast central at the end blew me away!
( I’m dead chuffed to have Juliets autograph on the JT live cd I bought that night). Thanks Juliet for saying hello to your fans at the end!

Hi Juliet, We have just watched the movie Omagh and your singing of “Broken Things” has really touched my heart. I must buy a copy of a CD with this song .
Please can you tell me which CD to buy as all the ones I have viewed on the net donot appear to include this title.
Keep singing. Your voice is an inspiration and believe it or not we are really classical music fans and in our 70′s
    Best regards,

    Hi Juliet
Hope you are feeling better, sorry to hear you’ve been ill. I saw you last year in the Empire and loved your work, really looking forward to the xmas show in the black box.
I was wondering if you had a support act arranged for the black box gig? I’m helping some friends to get some gigs to play thier new material which I think might appeal some of your fans, and hopefully you also? The go by the name Bruce Joseph and include guitar, cello and accordian. Here’s a wee link to their recent live video. Let me know what you think, or if you could maybe let me know what promoter to get in touch with in relation to the gig that’d be great as they’d love to support you.

    Hi Juliet,
I came across “Joy” on the radio today and I really loved it so I decided to download a few more this evening!
I read that you’re doing speech and language therapy in TCD. Wow! I qualified from the course not too long after you joined. I hope that your final year goes well and that everyone’s keeping calm. I hope that you make the most out of college. The job is excellent and I really enjoy it despite having found the course difficult. Don’t listen to the “C” woman!

Throughly enjoyed the gig at The Cellars, Southsea, it was a small crowd but a big atmosphere. It was so good to hear and to meet Juliet in person, she is such a warm person and really pleasant to speak to. Of course her performance was great, that goes without saying. I will do my best to contact Hugh as soon as possible.
    All the best.

I cut short my attendance at a conference in Copenhagen yesterday to make sure I got back for the gig in Brighton last night and I am so glad I did. The format was great, three very good singer/songwriters performing their own material and supporting on others. There was a good crowd but still nice and intimate. I bought a couple of the CD’s available and listened to Ashes and Gold as I drove home. I would like to thank all three of you for a very enjoyable evening. Yvonne – I really like the CD. Gentry – good luck with the new album. Juliet – you’re just fabulous and I have washed & scrubbed my favourite King Edward for you.

    Hiya,

Just read through some of your fans’ comments. You might as well plan and prepare for a South American Tour, as you are not only popular in Brazil but also in Chile! I have introduced your music to some of my friends and colleagues in Santiago and they loved what they heard. If you ever seriously consider performing there, especially in Chile, let me know, as I might know people who could help your manager set up the logistics. I am there with work next June or July.
Hope to see you tomorrow, if I can get away from uni. Auch, the joys of teaching!

    Hi Juliet.
Thanks for a great gig in York 11/9 – the first time I have seen you play live and it was good to meet you. I was introduced to your music a couple of years ago by Mick from Newtownards (I think you will remember from the gig) and since then I have been a fan. Your lyrics are intriguing, the music is unusual, varied, great to listen to (good to hear the ‘Norn Iron’) and I really enjoy playing it (amateur only, I should add!). I was pleased that you explained the origin of “Tuesday Night Ladies” – I had been wondering, since I bought the cd, who these people were. I looked up “Dean and Deluca” on the internet (Yes – sad isn’t it!)- now I know – posh food.
Hope to hear more music from you soon – if you can fit it in whilst finishing your studies. Until then, will continue to spread the word in the North East – what was it again???? …………… Enjoy the tunes and……….Ah yes – buy cds!
P.S. On the subject of cds, I should have bought Gentry’s on the night – have looked for it since but no luck.

Hi Juliet and a great big thanks for last night’s performance at The Duchess in York. I came over to Belfast to see you last at the Black Box and didn’t think the performance could be surpassed. Last night I had just arrived from Portugal to see you and would have travelled ten times further for such a show. All three of you were individually and together absolutely briliant. That Gentry will go far – sounds like the very early Jackson Browne. BUT the highlight was your performance of Belfast Central – cynical old me had to brush away a tear or two.

    Love Patrick
ps My Irish accent isn’t that bad !

Loving the new album and recognised Gardner Street choir straight away on “People Have Names”. Off to buy the 2004 album now as I’m a bit out of touch.

    Hello, Juliet.

I am a 13 year old fan of yours. My mum and dad have been listening to you for years and seen you live lots of times. Infact, my dad is in Omagh at the moment managing the gold mine there! We are all coming to see you in Baisingstoke on 26th September because my cousin lives down there and we think needs introducing to your music! I would really like to know how to get hold of guitar chords for your songs as I’m teaching myself and love your music, especially Business as Usual.
    See you on 26th!

Heyhooo, here’s some more poems to share. Smiles to ya!

    ‘Kisses from Argentina’

    Waiting for the words
    A space within spaces
    colours and melodies
    nostaligic formalities
    irregualrities of blue tiles
    allowing for unspoken intimacies.

    Brief, brave encounters
    A cheek touches a cheek
A mache of soft black wires
resists a net of wooley wires.

    But stubbles bend and bow
in exchange of a farewell vow
    Light tangible intimacy
    arrives.

Hi Juliet, I was overjoyed when I saw you were coming over to play this summer only to find you have bypassed the North East again! I am distraught. The nearest you come to Newcastle is YORK which is miles away. Any chance you can fit one in nearer us. The Sage or the Customs house perhaps? I’m so pleased you are touring with Gentry & Yvonne, both cracking performers. Loved them both when we saw you in Barrels at Berwick last time. Please, please, please try and do a North East concert. Your most loyal fan. Trev.

    Hi Juliet,
I’ve been a fan now since my school days, well over a decade now. So excited that you are coming to Edinburgh as I haven’t been able to catch you home in Ireland for so long. Your music has a huge place in my heart and (yes this is very corny), in that of my fiancees as we hope to have “Pizza and Wine” as the first song at our wedding. We cannot wait to see you in Cabaret Voltaire, I’m sure it’ll be another magical gig. Thank you Juliet!

    Hi Juliet

I ‘m not used to doing this, and left this message on the Mallow Gig first..then realized that this was a better place…

We (my husband David and I) are great fans. We saw you recently in Inverness, and thought you were FAB. I was really interested to hear about your training in SALT and hope the exams are going well. I have a son with Asperger Syndrome, and have written several books about/for kids with AS published by Jessica Kingsley. One of them – called What Did You Say? What Do You Mean? – has recently been turned into a pack of cards which can be used by Speech & Language therapists and others with children on the autism spectrum to help them learn about and enjoy metaphorical language. After the Inverness we bought and you kindly signed some of your CDs. I wanted to send you a pack (signed!) of What Did You Say? metaphor cards with my love and thanks. How would I do that? All the best Jude

    CARDIFF….Will you return??
I had just found out you were going to be playing on 17th March and was set to buy tkts when we got the bombshell that The Point closed down…i love that place.
So it was a double blow, can you tell me if you are going to come back to Cardiff as you didnt arrange a different venue nd never posted anything on the news pages…
I have lived in Cardiff for 7 years now and find it hard to see some of the homegrown talent as when they do a ‘UK tour’ it rarely fetures Wales…can you pass on a full UK map to any promoiters to ensure we get to see you all when you are over.

  51. Mary Says:

I came to see you at the Stables for the second time and just find your performances spellbinding. You have one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard and the Northern Irish accent is lovely in song. Please don’t stop writing and performing songs Juliet. I’m sure you will make a great speech therapist but there is no better therapy than listening to music and especially your music, so hopefully you will manage to do both. Come back to the Stables soon .

  52. Graham Says:
    March 24th, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Looks like my question has been answered in the last sentence of the March 24 tour update on the homepage .

  53. Graham Says:
    March 23rd, 2009 at 9:29 pm

Jumping to conclusions, no doubt they’re wrong ones, as ever. But your reply to the “Will you tour again?” question at Bury on Friday – although non-commital – certainly furrowed the brow.
Flavour those thoughts with the lyrics of the Christie Hennessy song , add my observation of the apparant disappearance JT’s CDs from public view at my local HMV, throw in the Speech Therapy studies – and this JT devotee’s imagination is running riot.
Have we witnessed one of Juliet Turner’s last UK gigs?

BTW: Don’t let that empty front row at the Bury Met sway any decisions you might make. The rest of theatre was full. Telford’s Warehouse at Chester was pretty well populated too.

  54. Ian Thomas Says:
    March 21st, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Only heard your music a few years ago when BBC Radio Manchester played Rough Lion’s Tongue on one of their late night shows. I’d never heard of Juliet Turner but the song was so good I bought the Burn The Black Suit cd and wasn’t dissapointed. I now have People Have Names and will no doubt pick up more of your back catologue as this was also excellent. We were at your Bury Met show last night and enjoyed it and would wish both you and Gentry all success in the future.

You are a great singer and musician. Any sign of you coming to Sligo again ? I saw you there some years ago. I went to see Nanci Griffith live in the Hawks Well theatre , last night ….she was not half as good as you ( even though she was probably double the price ! ).

    Juliet,
I read that a poet said to you ‘..record your own stuff..’ maybe this is one of those urban (Dromore ! rural ! ) myths.. I thought would it be cool to come full circle back to a poet again..

I love your work and it would be fantastic to collaborate with you on a reading / recording and / or a poetry to song project. I have about 1,000 poems and yet have been content to remain invisible however this year (2009) I’ve decided I’m ready (ironically).

I am running something called des donnelly’s poetry stew in strule arts centre, Omagh – feb mar apr and I would roll out the red carpet (seriously) if you would come and read a few poems … ? (hey free pizza)

Juliet, people are asking me for copies of my (net compiled) DVD. I would need your permission for that. I’m not selling the, just covering my time and costs. So, I’m asking for your permission to give copies to your fans.

    Juliet DVD ???????

Of course – there isn’t one. Except I have one, couldn’t wait for you to release one and couldn’t wait for the huge space between catching you live Juliet. So, I gathered all the wee live clips of you from the Internet, improved the sound, enlarged them (trying to keep the quality as much as I could) – and the result ?????

I watched it on my 32 inch TV last night, and though the quality (obviously) isn’t perfect – it is extremely watchable and listenable to. If you’re nice I’ll send you a copy Juliet.

(Maybe when your fans are making their own DVDs, this is a sign that you should contemplate doing the same??)

Great to see Juliet at the Braid Arts Centre Ballymena – a visit to Co Antrim was long overdue. The lyrics are insightful and honest and each tune is preceded by a personal introduction or an amusing anecdote – think Nanci Griffith or Bruce Springsteen live but with more self deprecating humour.

And the new songs from “people have names” are some of her best works (so far).

    Hi Juliet,

Really enjoyed you, Brian Grace and your guests, at the Empire last night. Tuesday Night Ladies is super, and you did Christy Hennessy proud with “I am a star”. Thanks, too, for chatting afterwards and for ‘introducing’ me to Kate Rusby as a result of your cover version. I really do think you should try and hook up with her, sometime. I’ll keep my promise to leave a suitable message on her site. Good luck with the rest of the tour, and with your studies, and please keep doing what you are doing.

Hi Juliet, The gig at McDaids Midleton on Dec.9th was up to your usual high standard. You always seem so relaxed at McDaids and this comes through in your performance. Being a Christy Hennessy fan I enjoyed your singing of “I am a star” and it was so apt just a year after his death. Looking forward to the next gig in Midleton and thanks to Tony Moore for the night.

    Juliet,
Thanks for a wonderful night in McDaids in Middleton on the 9th Dec. I have seen you a few times at this stage and thought you were on top of your game last night, the best I have seen you yet. As I said after to you your own songs were brillant, but your singing of Christie Hennessy’s song “I am a Star” was sublime and very emotional. The way you introduced each song really addded to the whole occasion. Long ago after a gig in the lobby bar, I had the cheek to say to you after “stay grounded”. Well you are still totally and give of yourself at every performance I have seen. Long may you continue. Like Tom Waits all it will take to make you mega rich is Bruce or the like to cover just one song of yours, and its just waiting to happen. Thanks again, John

I have just received some of your songs from my sister who heard you in Ballinamore & how wonderful they are! I have used some lyrics in my work with teenagers who are truly having a lousy start in life – they all love the idea that their ‘opportunities are open to the sky, there all the time & invisible to the eye’. ‘Pick a story’ reduces me to tears as so few of these kids have any one to support them at all even in their earliest childhood.

I still play your songs live and still cry on stage while playing certain songs. I do it with my eyes closed so the people don’t notice. Your lyrics are amazing, and I still long to hear you. Hi Juliet,

Greetings from Moo Wine Bar, Ballinamore. Hope the touring is going well – please say hi to Brian, Elder and your sister for us. We have some sad news – we’re having to close Moo! When we started Moo just over a year ago we decided to give it a year in the hope that things would be picking up by now. Unfortunately things are quieter than ever for a number of reasons – economic downturn, drink/driving ban blah blah blah. Having said that, we’ve really enjoyed the experience and we’ve had some brilliant nights – especially the music gigs such as yours. I was looking at the video of your gig recently and it was an excellent show and the audience loved it. Anyway, onwards and upwards and all that. Our last night of business is this Saturday 4th October and then, who knows. Thanks to you and the lads for a great show. Hopefully we’ll catch up with you when you’re next in Ireland.
    All the best,

Even the kids like it and asking all the time what the song is about. Which is a bit difficult to explain if you don’t even know yourself half the time… So next time please also add a little booklet with the stories behind the songs, please ;-) .

I heard you first 5 years ago on the radio (Gloria Hunniford) when we spent 6 months on a working holiday in Omagh while my husband helped project manage the college there. We emigrated to Oz 26 years ago and go back for occasional holidays. Heard you on the radio and immediately sought out your album “burn the black suit”. My daughter is n an extended working holiday in London and we hope to visit her next March so am keeping tuned to your website for any gigs you may have on while we are in UK as my sisters and brother live in Portrush/Ballymoney/Carrickfergus/Newtownabbey area. Also have made some lifetime friends in Omagh as when I was there I joined the Omagh Writers Group. Anyway, good luck with your new album. I was interested in the article about speech and language therapy. I am a musician and perormer, and also a life-long stammerer, who has gained a degree of freedom in communication. I was most interested to know, Juliet, if you also have a speech issue, or whether the therapy angle is more out of personal interest. If you have encountered speech issues as a performer (or indeed just as a human being) I’d be interested to compare notes. Best wishes…Chris Ward. He’s a very relaxed gentleman and very witty, especially when he forgot his own lines! You always do a good show and last night was as expected, brilliant, great seeing you again. My favourite album is Let’s hear it for pizza. The Creggan Centre is a lovely intimate venue but as someone said the seating arrangements could do with a little work, I spent a good bit of the night stretching to see you rather than the back of someone’s head ha ha! Juliet
    Juliet
Conor Brady – I know the name – great guitarist
People Have Names – Juliet played the whole album interspersed with songs from the near and distant (to her – distant to me is much longer ago), and though I had heard some of them before this was every track, very impressed

Minuses – (sorry Juliet but whilst my honesty loses me false friends my true friends respect it)
All seating on same level, I was in the back row, and whilst I am over 6 foot tall could only see the top of Juliet’s head.
No Brian Grace – missed his style of guitar playing and Conor didn’t harmonise with you whilst Brian does.
And that’s all I have to gripe about

Juliet, you have an ineffable quality in your music (voice/lyrcs and music) which is truly magical. Thank you for sharing it with us. I drove home through your home town of Dromore last night enroute to Enniskillen on such a high, and played your songs full blast!

Hope the rest of the tour is as good as last night.

    Ziggy

    Hey Juliet,
I have been listening to the new arrival. Whilst enjoying it, I am still trying to put the pieces together in an attempt to see the big puzzle of the thoughts and experiences that might have informed your lyrics and music in People Have Names.
I and my friends, whom I have converted to your music over the years, would love to hear the little stories that you are known to share about your songs during your gigs. They are revealing, humorous and you!
Thus, we would like you to consider coming over to the quaint city of Canterbury and tell us your tales and bewilder us with your music!
There is a lovely small venue, called The Orange Street, which we think might be a special enough venue for the kind of gigs you do (see contact address for the venue below)
May you be content and happy.

Hey there, I see you will be braving it and heading to Aughrim, Co. Wicklow next weekend. I am going to phone them up and book some tickets (it’s the mammy’s birthday). I saw you last at the Mermaid in Bray and it was a great gig. I have one request for the 28th of June….please please can you play Vampire at some stage in the evening? It’s one of my favourite songs ever (I still request it on eastcoast fm regularly) and you would make my evening if you sang it!
Looking forward to the gig and of course a plate of bacon and cabbage in the bar before hand! LOL
Good luck with the other venues on the tour. I don’t know how you do it all and still keep your sense of humour!

    Hi Juliet,

it’s great to hear your new album. I’ve looked forward to it for a while now and hope to have a hard copy soon, failing that, by download. How are you? I heard a song from your latest album on the Iain Anderson Show on BBC Radio Scotland there tonight(just into 13th June), so the power of radio lives on!

I am fascinated to see you’ve furthered your studies with a course in Speech Therapy. Last time you were in Comrie, you’d hurt your voice but you still had a go anyway.(Mushroom Farmer?) I tried to sing up but it’s always the case that the words run away from me as you got to them. Ah, it was just great having you and Mary Lee Cortes here. Let us know if you’re going to make it back to Scotland again sometime; there’s a new sound-proofed ceiling in the big hall in the Community Hall here in Comrie, so it doesn’t sound like a cave; and there’s a brand new Concert hall at Perth(The Horse-Cross). Life exists north of G’gow/E’burg!

No easy subject is speech though as there’s so many differences from person to person. I have had to cope with my speech going wrong(wong!) and I’ve fought my way back to what tricks, adaptions and alternatives for sounds and words I can’t say, to having some sort of feasable speech. U, L and R are still problematic, R is quite impossible and the right side of my mouth and tongue doesn’t respond properly(like the rest of my right side). Then there’s the 3 1/2 and 4 syllable words….. The weird thing is, like a person who stutters only, I too can sing in excellent diction and speak other languages! English IS my speech impediment! :o ) No great change there then…ok ok, enough of that :o )

(An aside I’ve found there is that if I trounce off into a stanza of (self-taught) Gaelic or what little French I’ve learned, it is getting harder to return to clearish English….hmmm, now I know why the SALT team I had, said “no” to me learning other languages.
Singing is the greatest therapy, used so much in CBT in stroke and other palsies, I hear, to great success with some. Difficult speech can mean interupted breathing rythmes and singing can help there with some people. Confidence too.
My wee girl has speech difficulties too, from different reasons, but has the same problems with R sounds too. I know some of her frustrations. :o ( My wee lass copes with it better as she’s grown from young with it and is usually very bubbly anyway, as is ever the case.
A friend of mine studied Linguistics and Therapy before going to Australia.. She’s set up her own Consultancy via this web-site. http://www.linguistlearning.com and has written a book(if memory serves?)

One other aside though. Great to see you’ve released Tuesday Night Ladies!!

Sorry, I’ve gone on a bit so edit as reqd. I do this to my GP too, but it’s probably the same with most GPs patients.

Anyway, all the best with the course, enjoy the “Clear L”, roll those Rs and all success with the new “People Have Names” album Juliet,

    Take care and luff’n'stuff honey,

    Adam Copland,
    Comrie.

I’ve only just discovered Juliet’s music and it’s great.

I’m in Ireland for a flying visit on the weekend of the 22nd and thought I might be able to see Juliet perform, I’m staying in Limavady, N. Ireland. Juliets in Cookstown on the night I arrive (20th – 33 miles) and Derry the night I leave (22nd – 22 miles). So where is she on Saturday 21st? The far side of Galway – 206 miles – obviously a girl who doesn’t mind travelling – or needs a new GPS when planning her tour.

Any plans to play London Juliet?

I saw you at a greenbelt festival way back in 199x, and you knocked my socks off. Over the years I’ve heard the odd track on Wogan, brought the albums and “vampire” has become mine and Candice’s ‘our song’. Everyone laughs when we tell them this (it’s going to be the first dance at our wedding in two weeks), so whats the story behind it, and are there any tour dates coming up in England so Candice can get to see you live at last? best wishes…

I was at your concert on Friday night at Clotworthy in Antrim. It’s the first time I’ve seen/heard you in concert and you totally blew my mind away. I’ve been listening to your new album all weekend and am still singing the tunes at work today. I loved the way you took time before each song to tell us your thoughts when writing it (and boy, are you a deep thinker!). Most artists don’t sound half as good in concert but you were fantastic!! I was watching an American film called ‘The Nines’ recently and almost yelped when I heard the strains of your version of ‘Sugartown’ in the background during a scene (I get overly-excited by such things). Whoever put the soundtrack together had excellent taste because Pink Martini also featured – it’s the first time I’ve heard either of you featured on a film and the latter was interesting in itself, too. There I was, reading ‘Murphy’s Revenge’, by Colin Bateman, and on Page 39 I came across the following paragraph:
‘When he was cleaned up and dressed he walked back into the lounge, took off the Springsteen and replaced it with an album by Juliet Turner. She was from his neck of the woods, and sounded like it. No mid-Atlantic accent for her. There was something very soothing about her voice, like she’d been badly hurt by someone but had crawled her way back to life and was happy now, but couldn’t help looking back. Whatever. It worked for him.’
Later in the book he puts the album on in his car.

Hi Juliet, found the site address on your c.d :) have bn a fan since I was much younger and seen you perform ‘burn the black suit’ on some programme on telly, was instantly impressed and remember my dad and I singing the chorus, as a greeting round the house for the entire following week! I’m not usually the type of girl who writes fan mail, and I hope thats not what this sounds like. Fan mail is for boy bands with ripping abs or sent by crazy stalker men who want to marry you. This is just a letter to from a girl with big dreams to another girl with extraordinary talents, who’s made some of hers come true. You endeared yourself to me immediately because you were Irish, gutsy, upbeat, amazingly talented and cheeky to boot. There was a certain glint in your eye that suggested you knew something the rest of the world hadn’t caught on to yet, and I was extemely jealous that’d you’d mastered what I wished I could do. Music speaks to me but I can’t speak through it (yet!! I play my guitar and I try very hard!) . Your songs make such incredible sense to me. I’ve just turned 18 and there’s something so refreshing in the honesty of your music. My friends and I have lost a lot of friends lately, some through suicide. Music’s always had the ability to alter my mood, change my perceptions and teach me how to react. We found lots of songs that tried to express how you feel when you lose someone, some became the soundtrack to the horrible confusion and offered tiny consulation. Too many friends left too early in such a short space of time that it seemed ‘everything beautiful was burning’ and ‘everyone close to us was leaving’. I dont know if I’ve interpreted the song how you meant it. But the suggestion that when we’re missing someone we’ve loved and lost, they haven’t forgot us and ‘drink a toast to our recovery’ helps… and makes me less guilty about turning to the ‘sunlight baby’. It’s not a weepy song, not weak and helpless, its strong and uplifting and hopeful, acknowledges the pain but encourages the healing. Your music reflects life, proud beating rythms that don’t apologise for the vulnerabiltiy of lust or the inexplicability of emotion. I connect because your brave enough to allow me know what your feeling.
My leaving cert Music practical is coming up in the next few weeks, I’d really love to try do some justice to ‘everything beautiful…’ for the exam but I can’t find accurate guitar chords to help anywhere! I’ve made an attempt to make them out myself but I cant get it just right! I’d really appreciate any help!!
Thanks so much for your music and your time reading this, (and believe the begining wasn’t just a butter- up, as i realise now it might have sounded!!)
    Love
    Laura English, Tipperary, Ireland

    Juliet,

I bought your first album the year it came out and only really listened to ‘Take the Money and Run.’ I think this was due to the fact that Terry Wogan had played it constantly on BBC Radio 2. Anyway I, for some reason, pulled it out at the weekend, put it on my Ipod and went for a walk. I played it through and realised that every song on it is great. So, basically, I’m saying sorry for it taking so long for it to grow on me but I’m playing it constantly now! P.S. I’m from Northern Ireland but currently living in England and have turned quite a few people over here on to your stuff. Take Care, Ed

Hi Juliet, It has been a few weeks but I just wanted to say a huge thank you for performing at Windsor Tennis Club in aid of Beyond the Shadows. Sexual exploitation of children in NI is such a hidden problem and people are either ignorant of it or choose not to open their eyes and ears to it. I was grateful to have the opportunity to speak on behalf of the young people to those at the tennis club and sincerely hope that it will have sown a seed. Many thanks and Happy Christmas. Jacqui

Hi Juliet, I’m totally freaked out that i missed the gig in Whelans. I’d been looking forward to it for months and then ……total brain freeze. Probably serves me right though I was dying to have a look at Brian and find out is he the same Brian that i was mad about in his glam rock days? First saw them in Galway 6 years ago this Christmas and then Marley Park Hotel or have a got the wrong Brian Grace?

    Have a great Christmas.

All the C.d.’s are worn out too…..another album please would also be nice. Cannot wait to see you live again you are a musical genius (and there ain’t a lot of them around these days) a poet for the angels, a cracking axe player, and a beautiful personallity too. Pleeeeeeasssssse don’t leave it too long to return. Your number one geordie fan, Trev ( of ‘Few Broth’ fame….keep viewing the website)

    Hey Juliet,
It’s been a long time since we met, and don’t worry i don’t expect you to remember me! I was only a little ginger boy at the time and you played in the Mallow Park Hotel (aka the Central), Mallow, Co.Cork. This was more than a few years ago(!) but and i seen you live since, but i just want to say thank you! Thank you for your music, your voice, for sharing your gift with everyone. You’re performing as i’m typing this in UCC tonight. I’m only a few mins away back in my apartment ‘studying’ for my first year college exams, wishing i was singing along with you! (I’m listening to you on my stereo as i’m writing to this). Well i hope i haven’t sounded like a mad man! Just thought i’d get in touch, keep the music coming!

    Hi Juliet
I really enoyed your interviewon RTE the other day. What a wonderful voice and song, and more unusual, to come across as a such wonderfully balanced insightful human being. Congrats on the brave return to study, speech and language therapy is a fabulous profession, my son is reaping great rewards from the work that has been done with him.

More to the point, I heard your ‘Elder of the Tribe’ song and would love to use it for the end credits of a small documentary that I am making about an amazing 76 year old man in my community. I know that ‘imro’ is the organization that I contact, but I am not some huge production company, ( mother of 3 small kids making this on a wing and a prayer) so I was wondering if these rights would be hugely out of my league? This project is a labour of love that is taking forever but this guy is unbelievable and your song would just be the perfect piece to complete the story. Would appreciate some feedback or information please thank you.

Sincere best wishes and good luck
    Emily Godson

And songs of yours or his that include the words like “pain” and “face” tickle me because I can do my N Irish accent when singing along! Am visiting the family in Bangor at Xmas so hows about a last minute gig eh? eh?

Good to know that you are enjoying studying 2nd time round – I reckon everyone should be allowed to go to Uni once they’ve grown up, I’m sure the world would be a better place for that.
Looking forward to the new album whenever you do release it, it would be great to see you back in England though.
    Hope the resit went OK.

I appear to be the first to sign. You seem to be juggling a lot of balls recently. Good luck with the college course, but please don’t stop writing and singing. I would miss your “one every four years” studio albums and I think you are a truly intriguing writer and engaging performer. Best of wishes to you.
